Puerto Morelos Public Works to start 8 million peso second phase of Bahía Petempich access road revamp

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Puerto Morelos is gearing up for the second reconstruction phase of a municipal access road. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz announced Sunday the plan to start work on the Bahía Petempich access road.

She said the upcoming launch of the second phase of the reconstruction of the access road to Bahía Petempich is a strategic project that will improve its traversability, safety, and durability.

She said the reconstruction project responds to the need for modern and functional road infrastructure, in line with the growth of the municipality.

“With this second phase of reconstruction of the access road to Bahía Petempich, we are guaranteeing a safer, more efficient, and more dignified road for residents and visitors.

“This project not only improves mobility but also boosts the tourism and economic development of our coastal area, reducing travel times and providing greater safety for everyone,” said the mayor.

The project involves a total investment of 8 million pesos that will see the revamping of 4,979 square meters of road.

Mario Salinas Castro, the Secretary of Public Works, explained the technical scope of the project and its impact on the municipality’s road infrastructure.

Nearly 5,000 square meters of road will be revamped at a cost of 8 million pesos. May 10, 2026

“This project includes comprehensive work ranging from cutting and leveling the terrain to applying asphalt pavement and installing road signs.

“We’ve incorporated a stabilized hydraulic base that improves the road’s structural capacity, as well as horizontal and vertical signage that will help organize traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents,” he explained.

He also emphasized that complementary work such as stormwater drainage and road safety features will be included, which will extend the useful life of the infrastructure and ensure its proper functioning in adverse weather conditions.
