Puerto Morelos City Council announces 57 million in road projects

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz confirmed Monday 57 million in municipal resources will be invested in projects. She says the projects respond to the needs of the population, promote the sustainable and equitable development of the municipality and allows it to move forward with a firm step towards a modern, safe Puerto Morelos with quality urban infrastructure.

Mario Salinas Castro, the municipality’s Secretary of Public Works, pointed out that the municipal works program responds to careful planning, such as the first phase of the reconstruction of the access road to Bahía Petempich, which will be financed with resources from the Environmental Sanitation Right (DSA).

A total of eight projects will be carried out in Leona Vicario and nine in Puerto Morelos, he said. In total, more than 57 million pesos will be invested. Of the total, more than 20 million will be from own fiscal resources, more than 15 million will be from the Fund for Contributions to Municipal Social Infrastructure (Faismun) and more than 21 million from the Fund for Contributions to Strengthen Municipalities (Fortamun).

“Each project we undertake, whether it be paving and patching, building streets, storm drains or sidewalks, has the purpose of generating well-being, improving the safety and quality of life of families and generating conditions for the development of the municipality by facilitating various productive activities,” he said.

The project program in the Leona Vicario Delegation includes four paving projects and sidewalk construction to improve pedestrian mobility, as well as the construction and maintenance of absorption wells.

“Every project carried out in Leona Vicario is an act of historic social justice, which allows us to settle old debts with the inhabitants of that community, which gave rise to the municipality,” he added.

Salinas Castro explained that in the municipal capital, 5 Sur Street will be built. He said Mario Villanueva Madrid will be paved and Vallarta, Joaquín Hendricks Díaz and various stretches in the downtown area will be reconstructed.

The program of sidewalk construction and patching throughout the municipality will also continue.

“The objective of the program for the construction and maintenance of absorption wells is to improve the management of rainwater and reduce flooding and puddles during the rainy season.
