Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A car transporting two 10 lb LP gas tanks for a refill caught fire in Puerto Aventuras. The driver of the car noticed smoke coming from the engine that, within minutes, turned to flames.
Police and firemen arrived on the Puerto Maya causeway in response to his request for help. By the time they arrived, the compact Golf was completely engulfed by fire.
The driver was able to remove the two LP gas tanks from his trunk before flames reached the back of his car. The intense flames caused the total closure of the main Puerto Maya road while authorities dealt with the car engine fire.
