Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Puerto Morelos paramedics pronounced a pedestrian dead Thursday in a fatal hit and run. The man was crossing the federal highway in a busy section of Puerto Morelos when he was struck by a vehicle.
The accident happened shortly after midnight on the federal 307 highway. The man was reportedly dodging traffic to cross the highway when he was struck.
The driver responsible for hitting the pedestrian did not stop.
National Guard Highways were first on scene followed by medical personnel and police. Witnesses said the man, who has not been identified, was dodging cars to cross the road when one hit him.
He was thrown several meters, landing on the pavement. Responding paramedics confirmed his death at the scene. Authorities are in search of the responsible vehicle.
