PDC bus passengers delayed by flying brick from passing semi

Akumal, Q.R. — Three passengers were injured Monday when a brick flew off a passing semi and hit their bus. The incident happened around 2:00 p.m. as the bus traveled the federal highway near Akumal.

A semi flatbed loaded with bricks had just passed the ADO bus when one came lose and hit a side window. The lose brick penetrated the glass, injuring three passengers.

The Autobuses de Oriente (ADO) bus had departed Playa del Carmen and was heading south at the time of the accident. Emergency services from Tulum responded to the report.

Municipal Civil Protection personnel and an ambulance arrived at the scene and treated the three passengers, none of whom presented serious injuries. Personnel evacuated the bus of its passengers while a second ADO bus was brought in.

Passengers were loaded onto the second bus to continue their journey while the first bus, which was left with a large hole in a section of its glass, was towed.

The semi driver stopped on the highway with the ADO bus. General vibrations from the heavy load, which is alleged to not have been properly secured, is being blamed for the brick leaving the flatbed.
