Riviera Maya, Q.R. — An area resident was pronounced dead off a Xpu-Ha beach in Riviera Maya Sunday afternoon. The man is reported to have spent the day at a beach club before entering the sea to swim.

The adult man of Mexican nationality died Sunday afternoon off the coast of Xpu-Ha after being swept out to sea. Two area lifeguards were successful in retrieving him from the water and returning him to the sand where CPR was applied, however, he did not respond to their efforts.
An ambulance arrived at the beach where paramedics confirmed the man’s death. Subsequently, the Playa del Carmen Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) and the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) were notified of the death.
