Cozumel, Q.R. – People attending a press conference inside the Municipal Palace of Cozumel on Wednesday, rushed out after smoke began to emerge. Dozens of reporters along with the general public were seen escaping what quickly became, thick white smoke.
Municipal officials were holding a press conference regarding the new Carnival 2022 dates when the presence of smoke became noticeable. The focus of city council changed from the Carnival dates to an immediate evacuation of the building.
While the people inside were exiting through the front door, police were heading inside with fire extinguishers while they waited for the fire department.
So far, no injuries have been reported in the incident, nor has there been any official report on what caused the thick and sudden plume of smoke to fill the building.
