Overturned fuel tanker leaves JMM traffic at a standstill

José María Morelos, Q.R. — A tanker carrying a load of fuel caused two lanes to become blocked Monday. Vehicles were unable to get through the area due to the overturned vehicle.

Motorists were left at a standstill Monday afternoon just before a curve in the federal 184 highway in José María Morelos. The driver of the unit overturned while taking a sharp corner. He was traveling east when a front tire made contact with the soft shoulder dirt, pulling him in and overturning the truck.

National Guard, a tow truck and a second fuel truck arrived to deal with the situation. The second fuel truck arrived empty to transfer the overturned vehicle’s fuel into the second unit so the ditched truck could be up-righted. During the fuel transfer, the second lane was closed to traffic.

Once the fuel was removed from the overturned tanker, tow trucks pulled it from the ditch. Traffic was affected for more than an hour while authorities worked to clear the area.
