Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Municipal firemen and Civil Protection responded to a gas explosion in Puerto Morelos yesterday. Paramedics were also part of the first responders to reports of the LP explosion inside a home Saturday afternoon.
One person was rushed to hospital after suffering extensive burns during the gas blast that had emergency services at the home shortly after 3:00 p.m.
The accident happened on the bottom level of a two story home in Villas Morelos Saturday. Firemen were successful in extinguishing the blaze that started due to a leaking gas line.
The unit was heavily damaged by the fire that left black scorch marks on the outside front of the building. From the scene, authorities removed an LP gas tank believed responsible for the fire.

In a statement, authorities said “public safety officers, the Fire Department, paramedics and Civil Protection personnel responded immediately to a report of an explosion inside a home in the municipal seat.
“The person who was at the scene was promptly transported by ambulance to receive specialized medical attention.
“The City Council reiterates its commitment to the safety and well-being of the community and reminds residents that the 911 emergency number is available for immediate assistance throughout the municipality.”
