Tulum, Q.R. — A Tulum taxi driver and his passenger were shot Sunday in a parking lot along Tulum Avenue with the driver dying from the bullet wounds.
The shooting happened at 1:40 a.m. Sunday when the driver of a Tiburones del Caribe unit was shot at multiple times while at a parking lot near the Palacio Municipal of Tulum.
According to preliminary information, the taxi driver and his passenger were intercepted by subjects on a motorcycle who shot at them repeatably before fleeing. When police arrived, they found the driver of the unit deceased behind the wheel with numerous bullet wounds and his passenger laying injured on the roadway. He had been shot twice.
The passenger was rushed to hospital where he was reported in serious condition, but died several hours after being admitted. There were no arrests.
There are normally police on duty inside the Palacio Municipal. There have not been any official reports if police were inside the city hall building during the time of the shootings.
