Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) says new police headquarters for Cozumel and Puerto Morelos are on the list for this year. SSC head Julio César Gómez Torres says the new stations will be built with resources from the Security Strengthening Trust Fund of Quintana Roo.
On Monday, Torres said that this year, the trust has 591 million pesos that will be distributed between the 11 municipalities. One of the earmarked projects on the list for 2025 are stations for Cozumel and Puerto Morelos.
That money, he said, will also be used to improve the existing station in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
“The construction of a municipal police station in Cozumel will be built because the island needs to strengthen its force with people from the mainland and have the facilities to operate better.
“One also for Puerto Morelos. The station in Felipe Carrillo Puerto will be improved. The funds will also be used to increase the technological capacity of the municipalities, as well as the strengthening of the police academy in Solidaridad and the installation of surveillance cameras on the Chetumal Boulevard,” he explained.
