New garbage collection scheduled as Isla Mujeres mayor deals with inherited issues

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Isla Mujeres mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says a new garbage schedule has been set up for the municipality, in particular, for island residents.

She says a new schedule and route has been created that will come into effect Monday. In a press conference, Ricalde explained that as of September 30, they have estimated between 35 and 40,000 tons of garbage in the waste transfer site.

She said that in the last week, 75 truckloads have been removed, but says they are not sure of the exact amount in the transfer site since they are without previous records.

“I found a general direction of Public Services in this transfer place where we estimate about 40,000 tons of garbage as of September 30, but there is no actual figure because they never left a record,” she commented.

Part of the delivered administration, she pointed out, included “useless collection trucks” and “inoperative collection routes” by the previous administration.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde announced the new routes and schedules will include Ruta de Playas and Ruta de Salinas, which will begin collections at 5:00 a.m. Route 3 will be El Cañotal with a collection from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Route 4 will be La Gloria, where the collection will begin at 8:00 p.m. and Routes 5 and 6 are Sac-Bajo, with a collection time of between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Centro, with a collection time of between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
