Navy of Mexico evacuates cruise ship passenger for Cancun hospital transfer

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A 26-year-old man was evacuated from a cruise ship due to a medical emergency Monday. The Secretary of the Navy, who also acts as Coast Guard, met the ship approximately four nautical miles (7.4 kilometers) north of Isla Mujeres.

The ship’s doctor made the call to have the young man transferred to hospital after he showed signs of secondary anemia and digestive tract bleeding. Navy personnel responded to the call for assistance in transferring the man from the ship to hospital where he could be treated.

He was transferred by boat to Puerto Juárez where a waiting ambulance transferred him to Cancun hospital.
