Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two cruise ship passengers were evacuated from a vessel Wednesday and transferred to Cancun hospital. The Secretary of the Navy reported meeting the cruise ship approximately five nautical miles (9.2 kilometers) north of Isla Mujeres.
Once there, they evacuated two people from the ship who were in need of hospital attention. In their statement, the Navy said that after receiving a call for assistance from the ship, they evacuated a 28 year old woman and a 92 year old man.
The woman was of Peruvian nationality and was diagnosed with acute appendicitis by the ship’s doctor. At the same time, a 92-year-old American man was diagnosed with ischemia.
Rescue and Maritime Surveillance of Isla Mujeres responded to the call for help with specialized medical personnel. Both were transferred by boat to Puerto Juárez mainland where they were met by waiting ambulances for transfer to Cancun hospital.
