Ministry of Health details considerations for the vaccination of minors against covid

Mexico City, Mexico — The Ministry of Health says there are nine comorbidities that will be considered for the vaccination of minors, which is expected to begin mid-month.

Girls and boys from 12 to 17 years of age with comorbidities will be vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech since to date, it is the only vaccine that has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in people of this age range, announced the Ministry of Health in National Vaccination Policy update.

According to the Strategic Guide for Vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the immunization of people most susceptible to developing complications has been extended to risk groups, so in October, those aged 12 to 17 with specific characteristics that increase the risk of severe disease and death from coronavirus will be included.

Based on the guidelines published by the Ministry of Health, minors with Chronic heart conditions, Chronic lung disease, Chronic affections of the kidney, liver or digestive system, Chronic neurological disease, Endocrine diseases, Moderate to severe immunosuppression, Asplenia or spleen dysfunction and hematological diseases, Serious genetic abnormalities that affect various systems and Teen pregnancy will be considered for the vaccine.

Registration for the vaccine began October 1. The Ministry of Health suggests that each adolescent present themselves with a card and / or proof that certifies the diagnosis of one of the risk conditions issued by treating medical personnel.

On September 24, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, estimated that between 750,000 and 1.5 million adolescents will be vaccinated.
