Mexico City couple arrested for trashing Riviera Maya hotel room

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A couple from Mexico City were detained over the weekend after being accused of trashing their hotel room. The pair were arrested Saturday from a Riviera Maya hotel after the manager called police.

According to police, they responded to an emergency call over the weekend after guests were reported spilling liquids on hotel-owned electronics.

“The Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Playa del Carmen arrested a couple for their alleged involvement in the crime of damaging a hotel on Playa del Carmen-Puerto Morelos Boulevard.

“The incident occurred when officers responded to the hotel following a report of damage to one of the rooms. Upon arrival, officers found a television damaged after being doused with soda, and the room in general showed similar damage, with liquids spilled on various surfaces.

“The detainees were identified as Ximena “N,” 26 and Diego Emilio “N,” both originally from Mexico City. The couple was handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office for the appropriate legal proceedings.
