Mayor attends first meeting with new Puerto Morelos Hotel Association board

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz attended the First Meeting of the New Board of Directors of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres.

The weekend meeting was chaired by businessman Rodrigo de la Peña Segura.

At this first meeting, Blanca Merari Tziu reaffirmed the importance of the tourism and hotel industry as the municipality’s economic foundation. She welcomed the opportunity to learn firsthand about the sector’s concerns and the potential actions they can undertake together.

“We have placed common interests at the center of the agenda, such as tourism development, the economic impact of the hotel industry, public safety for our national and international visitors, and, in general, all the issues that call us together and compel us to work on with a deep sense of social responsibility,” she said.

She stated that an example of their collaborative work was the formation of the Puerto Morelos Environmental Sanitation Trust at the end of 2023, in whose Technical Committee they have legitimate representation with voice and vote, and where the works programs for 2025 will soon be implemented.

The sargassum season and the response strategies of the municipality and hoteliers were another topic discussed at the meeting, which they agreed to work on in coordination.

“It’s essential to work together to improve the experience of those who choose Puerto Morelos as their destination, ensuring that both our tourists and Puerto Morelos residents enjoy a clean and safe environment,” said the mayor.

Rodrigo de la Peña Segura, President of the Association, announced that monthly meetings with the mayor will resume during this administration. This effort seeks to foster closer collaboration between local authorities and tourism entrepreneurs.

De la Peña Segura emphasized the importance of teamwork to address challenges such as timely response to combat sargassum and maintain security, as well as taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the sector by promoting Puerto Morelos.
