Marines respond to request for medical evacuation of American cruise ship passenger off Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An American man was transferred to Cancun hospital late Wednesday from a cruise ship off Isla Mujeres. The medical evacuation happened approximately seven nautical miles (12.9 kilometers) southeast of the island.

The Secretary of the Navy reported on the medical evacuation of an adult male from cruise ship Carnival Glory after the request for medical assistance for a passenger was made.

Marine elements met the ship to transfer the 59-year-old man to a waiting ambulance after the ship’s doctor diagnosed appendicitis. The man was transferred from the ship onto a navy vessel where he was transported to land at Puerto Juárez to meet a waiting ambulance who then took him to a Cancun hospital.
