Playa del Carme, Q.R. — A man believed to have caused the fire that burned a Playa del Carmen restaurant-bar, has been arrested. Police report the arrest of 31-year-old Abisaí N from Campeche, the person alleged responsible for a fire at the Zitla bar and restaurant in Playa del Carmen Wednesday night.

According to police information, police were walking down 12th street when they “detected the subject standing suspiciously with an object in his hand in front of the aforementioned establishment.”

Police say moments later, the man threw the device at the bar and ran, but was arrested a few blocks away on 20th Street.

The 1:00 a.m. Wednesday night fire at the Zilta restaurant and bar, which caused extensive damage, was allegedly caused by a Molotov Cocktail. Firemen attending to the fire noticed the Molotov cocktail, a bottle of tequila with a cloth in the spout, classifying the fire as arson.
