Imoveqroo caravan issues more than 4,000 new driver’s licenses in remote areas

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — More than 4,200 driving licenses were issued through the mobile van of the Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) in four months. Since September 2024 when the mobile program began, the van scheduled appointments in 45 hard-to-reach Quintana Roo communities.

Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia, who heads Imoveqoo, said they issued a total of 4,245 driving licenses through the Mobile Unit Caravans program that began operating on September 18.

The two mobile units, which are outfitted to issue licenses on the spot, visited 45 remote locations throughout the state.

Since mid-September, the Imoveqroo units provided licenses in the municipalities of Othón P. Blanco, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, José María Morelos, Solidaridad, Puerto Morelos, Benito Juárez, Lázaro Cárdenas, Tulum, Isla Mujeres and Bacalar.

Imoveqroo personnel visited areas located furthest from Imoveqroo offices where driver’s licenses are normally issued. Since starting operations, the two mobile caravans set up 58 times in 45 communities in 10 of the state’s municipalities providing more than 4,200 driver’s with new licenses.

“We are very satisfied with the response of the citizens to this program. The Caravans of Mobile Units have proven to be an effective tool to bring Imoveqroo services to those who need them most,” said Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia.

Inside the vans, personnel carry out the full procedure for municipal residents to obtain a driver’s license.

Violette Eljure, the Director of Licensing at Imoveqroo, said the first caravan was set up in the town of Leona Vicario in Puerto Morelos. On that first day, Imoveqroo issued 170 new driver’s licenses.

She said people who used their service have been grateful to the state for taking the process to their locality.

“I am thrilled that in the most remote villages in the Mayan area, for example, there were people who had never had a driver’s license in their lives because it meant spending money and time to travel long distances to their municipal capital for a single procedure.

It is a great achievement of Imoveqroo to bring the procedure closer to them,” she said.
