Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Hundreds were left without electricity after two power outages were recorded in two different municipalities around the same time. Several residential areas of Playa del Carmen were without power between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m.
Some of those outages reportedly lasted around two hours, however, one area woke up Monday morning to find the power was still not connected. Affected areas of the city included Ejido, Nicte-Ha, Olivos, Marsella, Palmas II, a section of Villas del Sol and Edén Plus, among others.
As of 9:00 a.m., Monday, some areas of Villas del Sol had not fully recovered their electricity while others recovered areas went dark for a second time. A majority of the power problems were reported restored by 8:00 a.m. Monday.
Residents in the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto also found themselves without power around midnight. Some took to social media early Monday morning to vent their frustration at not having electricity during the extreme heat.

Other areas of the town reported a power loss around 2:30 a.m., more than two hours after the first power outage was reported in a different area of town. Power was restored in the town mid-morning Monday.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has not issued a statement regarding the cause of most recent power outages.
