Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — National Guard attended to the scene of a four vehicle highway crash Thursday. The afternoon accident stalled the holiday flow of traffic along the federal highway between Puerto Morelos and Cancun.
The four vehicle accident reportedly started at the base of a Puerto Morelos overpass when one vehicle slowed and others behind did not. The chain reaction left a total of four bumpers damaged. At least one of the involved vehicles, a taxi, had its front end destroyed in the hit.
The accident happened in the northbound lane heading toward Cancun. An ambulance responded but it was only to treat drivers for minor injuries. There were no hospital transfers required.
Tow trucks arrived to remove the damaged vehicles from the federal highway, which only further hampered holiday traffic. Municipal Police who attended the scene were still sorting out an official cause for the crash.
