Gang members sentenced to 31 years for abduction of Puerto Morelos construction workers

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Two men will each spend the next 31 years in prison for the kidnapping of two Puerto Morelos workers. The sentencing dates back to the March 2021 abduction of the men from a construction site.

The father of one of the men abducted reported the disappearance of his son from the work site. His son, who has not been named, was abducted from the construction site along with a second man.

Over the weekend, police say Martín Hernández Hernández and Marcos Márquez Javier, members of a violent criminal group, were each sentenced to 31 years and six months in prison.

The FGE of Quintana Roo said “Martín Hernández Hernández and Marcos Márquez Javier, members of a violent criminal group, were sentenced to 31 years and six months in prison in the municipality of Puerto Morelos. They will pay a fine of 448,100 pesos and compensation for material and moral damages.

“These individuals were sentenced for events that occurred on March 2, 2021, when a citizen reported the disappearance of his son who was working on a construction site, along with another man, who was also missing. Both victims were deprived of their liberty in an attempt to conceal their whereabouts.

“Those now sentenced are members of a violent criminal group dedicated to drug dealing.”
