First Maya Train cars being readied for Cancun delivery

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Cars that will be used for the Maya Train are nearly ready to leave the state of Hidalgo. The train cars were produced in the state and are being readied for shipment to Quintana Roo.

Maite Ramos Gómez, Director of Alstom Mexico, said the cars are expected to be shipped in coming weeks and sent to a maintenance garage near the under-construction Cancun Maya Train station site.

The Jaguar train cars will leave Ciudad Sahagún and are part of a total of 42. He said the cars are part of 42 that are divided into three models, 31 of which are Xiinbal standard, eight Jacals which are the restaurant cars and three P’atal cars meant for long distance.

He said that by July 8, the first cars are expected to arrive in Cancun and that by July 17, the static tests will be carried out in the area.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that the Campeche-Mérida-Cancún section of the Maya Train is 80 percent complete.

After his weekend flyover tour of the south, AMLO posted “We finished the supervision tour of the Maya Train crossing the legendary Laguna de Términos, a refuge for pirates from before.

“Good news: the Campeche-Mérida-Cancún stretch is 80 percent complete. The first train arrives in July and testing begins in August with displacements of up to 180 kilometers per hour.”

Ramos Gómez said the next 10 will be of the Xiinbal model, which are scheduled for delivery between July 23 and November 23. After that, seven more of the same model will be delivered between November 2023 and February 2024, while the remaining 14 will be ready between April and September 2024.

The Janal model restaurant-trains, which will run on diesel and electric power, will be delivered between October and November 2024. Three P’atal model long distance cars will be ready between March and April 2024.

The director of Alstom explained that an entire operation will be deployed in which the Ministry of National Defense, the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) and the Ministry of Communications and Transport Infrastructure will participate. He reported that the National Guard will participate in the transfer of all trains via land aboard special 35-meter-long tractor trailers to move the convoys.
