Firemen extinguish afternoon blaze at Riviera Maya hotel

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Solidaridad firemen rushed to the scene of a large fire at a Riviera Maya hotel Thursday. Thick smoke from the afternoon blaze was clearly visible for kilometers along the federal 307 highway south of Playa del Carmen.

The fire started around 4:00 p.m. in a waste collection centre of the hotel. According to Solidaridad Civil Protection, the fire broke out in an outside garbage area of the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya.

Three firetrucks were sent to the hotel to put out the fire that had quickly ignited the entire pile of collection centre material. Solidaridad firemen reported that there were no injuries during the incident. They did not provide information on how the fire started.

In a brief note, the department of Solidaridad Firemen and Civil Protection said “with the deployment of three units, firefighters controlled and extinguished the fire that broke out in a waste collection center located at the Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya hotel.

“The effective response of the Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading, and no injuries were reported.”
