Fake federal officer killed in Cancun shooting

Cancún, Q.R. — One person was killed and another injured in a shooting that involved a group of eight people impersonating federal police officers. One man, who was dressed as a federal officer and carrying fake federal identification, was shot and killed in the attack.

The shooting happened in Region 92 shortly after 7:00 p.m. when one of the man dressed as a federal officer attempted to shoot and kill an alleged criminal gang leader. The group of eight men are reported to have arrived to kill the alleged leader of the criminal group Los Pelones, who supposedly maintains control of the Cancun Hotel Zone.

However, the intended target fired back, fatally hitting one of the eight men. He was left behind, laying on the asphalt while the others made their escape. One other person, a 42-year-old male believed to be the target, received a bullet wound to his thigh and was taken to hospital.
