Employment rates up for second consecutive month in Quintana Roo

Cancun, Q.R. — According to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), another 3,600 people have gone back to work during the month of October. It is the second consecutive month with positive employment recovery rates for the state of Quintana Roo.

With the new figures, the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) reports over 361,000 have gone back to work in formal employment positions across the state. Quintana Roo was one of the hardest hit states with the arrival of the Coronavirus pandemic due to its high reliance on tourism.

With travel restriction and border closures, thousands of businesses were forced to shut. The institute reports that at the end of September, the total employment figure for the state was just over 358,000, however in October, that figure increased, albeit slightly. They stress that it is not yet possible to fully recover the figures prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, since the state remains at a 60 percent operation capacity.
