Driver wrecks car avoiding animal on Riviera Maya highway

Akumal, Q.R. — One person was injured in a single vehicle accident outside Akumal Wednesday. The driver of a Nissan was taken to hospital after wrecking his car along the federal highway.

According to the driver, 35 year old Bernardo “N”, he and his passenger were heading south along the federal 307 when he swerved to avoid an animal. His car ended up colliding with highway infrastructure before coming to a stop.

Firemen used hydraulic tools to free him from the front cab of his car. He was transferred to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His front-seat passenger was not injured.

Both men are local Playa del Carmen residents.

A group of emergency service vehicles created a slow-go for motorists until the car was towed Wednesday afternoon.
