Akumal, Q.R. — The driver of a public transport van was taken to hospital with minor injuries after skidding. The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. outside the town of Akumal early Monday morning.

Early reports say a blown tire caused the driver to lose control and land the van on its side. The driver was transporting a handful of passengers at the time of the accident. No one from inside the van was seriously hurt.
Paramedics from the Tulum Hospital evaulated the occupants of the van at the scene. Only the driver was transferred to hospital. The driver was heading north at the time of the single vehicle accident.

National Guard Highways and Civil Protection were on scene to divert traffic around the overturned van and group of passengers on the highway. Monday morning highway traffic toward Playa del Carmen was slowed until the accident scene was cleared.
