Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The jaws of life were used to cut open a vehicle and remove a trapped driver Thursday. Firemen were at the scene of the single vehicle rollover in north Puerto Morelos Thursday morning.

They were called to extract the trapped driver from a car that had rolled into the central median. The accident happened near Villas Morelos II where the driver of the car rolled several times.
Motorists who watched as the white Honda rolled down the highway called 9-1-1 to report the accident near the pedestrian bridge.
Firefighters and paramedics from Puerto Morelos arrived at the scene and carried out rescue operations to extract the driver from the wrecked vehicle.
The male driver was rescued from behind the wheel of his car alive. He was stabilized at the scene before being transferred to a Cancun hospital in serous condition.
National Guard Highways were also on site to secure the area and manage traffic around the scene of the rollover.
Drivers heading to Cancun from Puerto Morelos were slowed while emergency services worked to free the driver and tow the car.

Preliminary reports say the driver rolled his car when he swerved to avoid a pedestrian who was crossing the highway near the pedestrian bridge.
