Driver flees after felling CFE pole on Riviera Maya highway

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A section of Riviera Maya was left without electricity Monday after a car mowed down a power pole. Authorities were made aware of the single vehicle accident early Monday morning along the federal 307 south of Playa del Carmen.

Driver flees after felling two CFE poles on Riviera Maya highway

The driver of an SUV left the pavement and drove onto the shoulder where they took out the CFE pole. The pole was completely dislodged from its base and subsequently fell across the highway.

Police and personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) located the trapped vehicle and downed pole approximately 20 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.

They also found the responsible vehicle abandoned. The driver left the scene before police arrived. The highway was blocked due to the felled electric pole. National Guard and Municipal Transit patrolled the area while CFE personnel began work to disconnect the electricity.

CFE were on site for several hours making repairs to restore power to the area. Once the vehicle was freed from the felled pole, it was towed from the scene.
