Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The second stage of the Malecón del Caribe of Isla Mujeres has been reopened. On Tuesday, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde reopened the island’s seaside walkway.
The Malecón Caribe has been revamped with improved infrastructure and security as well as attractions such as sculptures. Five sculptures of local marine life among other figures typical of the island were made for public display along with environmental messages.
After cutting the inaugural ribbon, authorities toured the facilities where railings, lighting and 764 square meters of walkways, outdoor furniture and signage were placed.
“It is a great job on a beautiful, extraordinary boardwalk, which the world deserves to know,” said Mara Lezama during the reopening.
The Malecón del Caribe of Isla Mujeres is popular with runners as well as families and tourists.
