Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A sailboat that had been reported adrift off the municipal coast of Isla Mujeres was located and its crew rescued. The boat’s crew requested help Sunday after it began to take on water.
The boat was out in choppy seas as cold front 16 entered the region. Navy personnel located sailboat Parrot in the area of Bajo Pepito Sunday night.
According to a press release issued by the Ninth Naval Region, on Sunday, personnel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Isla Mujeres rescued six on board.
The navy set sail in search of the boat “after support was requested for the evacuation of six people who were on board a vessel due to sinking in the vicinity of Bajo Pepito.
“A Defender vessel from ENSAR immediately set sail with trained personnel and Naval Health, who rescued and provided medical care to the six castaways,” they reported.
The Navy also reported a separate rescue of 13 on a smaller vessel around the same time. Assistance was requested for a return to shore after the private boat failed.
