CPR efforts unsuccessful in saving Riviera Maya tourist

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Paramedics pronounced a tourist dead off Playa Xcalacoco Thursday. The now-deceased man was a visitor from Mexicali, Baja California. The drowning accident happened just before 6:00 p.m.

An ambulance was called after the man was pulled from the sea. On duty lifeguards performed CPR, however, the man did not respond. Paramedics took over CPR and placed him in the ambulance for hospital transfer, however, he was pronounced dead.

The group of national tourists were staying at an area hotel. The man was with relatives at the public beach at the time of the accident. Police were notified of the drowning death by paramedics.
