Cozumel police officer found guilty of abuse of authority

Cozumel, Q.R. — The Special Prosecutor’s Office in Combating Corruption (FECC) found a Cozumel police officer guilty of abuse of authority, sentencing him to restitution payments and the replacement of a motorcycle.

La Fiscalía Especializada en Combate a la Corrupción (FECC) reports that Cozumel police officer José Alfredo C.M. was found guilty of abuse of authority against a person of reserved identity. A court has instructed him to make restitution payments to the victim as well as replace a motorcycle with one in good condition.

The police officer has been granted the payments be made in four installments on March 16 and 20 and April 15 and 30. The amount of the payments was not made public. The police officer has also been sentenced to home arrest and has been ordered to stay away from the victim.

According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s report, the request for conditional suspension was generated by the defense of the accused for the crime of abuse of authority, which has been put off until September 2.
