Compact car reduced to crumpled metal heap in PDC highway crash

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two people were rushed to Playa del Carmen hospital early Sunday morning after a crash north of the city. Solidaridad firemen were called to the scene of the early morning accident to remove two trapped people.

It was around 2:00 a.m. when police were notified of the single vehicle crash that left the gray compact car completely demolished.

The driver of the car reportedly slammed into a concrete retaining wall at highway speed. The car was heading south at the time of the crash. The high-speed impact pushed the engine into the cab, trapping both people in the front seat.

National Guard Highways oversaw the towing of the crumpled car.

In a brief statement, the SPC (Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos) of Solidaridad reported that “firefighters and operational elements assisted in a vehicle accident near the Iberostar Hotel, where there were two injured people.

“Both people were transferred to the SESA Hospital and the IMSS 18.”

The condition of the two people from inside the car are not known. Police did not provide details on how the crash happened or events leading up to the accident.
