Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad city council says they have closed a 7-hectare area of devastated forest illegally cleared by Aguakán.
Municipal Environmental Director, Nancy Acosta Sánchez, says city council shut down the illegal clearing of land and intends to impose a sanction on the water company after officials evaluate the damages.
She says the company cleared 7-hectares of land in the western area of Ejido of Playa del Carmen without permits of any kind, adding that the company must be responsible for the illegal deforestation in which it incurred.
Aguakán was allegedly clearing land for a water collection network without permits from Semarnat or Conagua. Acosta Sánchez has urged developers to stop violating environmental regulations.
