Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Christmas morning was marred by a fatal accident near the Riviera Maya area of Xpu-Ha. Police were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. in response to reports of a deadly motorcycle crash.
Two men on board the motorcycle were thrown to the pavement Wednesday morning after the driver lost control and skidded. Witnesses who called emergency services reported seeing the bike traveling at excessive speed.
One person from the spilled motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was rushed to PDC hospital in serious condition. National Guard Highways were called in to cordon off the area with cones and redirect traffic around the accident site.
The fatal spill happened along a section of federal highway approximately 30 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen. The driver was heading in the direction of the Riviera Maya city when he lost control.
