Akumal, Q.R. — The driver of a car that hit a pole and caught fire was treated at the scene and released. Tulum firemen were made aware of the car fire shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday outside the town of Akumal.
Firemen were met by police and Civil Protection after a report was made to the C5 Centre of a single vehicle accident. Paola “N’, 25, from Merida, lost control of her car and slammed into a concrete highway pole, causing her car to burst into flames.
Emergency services arrived to a burning Mazda that was fully engulfed in flames. While they worked to extinguish the fire, paramedics from Civil Protection treated the young woman at the scene for minor injuries. She did not require a hospital transfer.
Remains of the burned-out car were towed from the highway around 5:30 a.m. Authorities did not provide a cause for the crash.
