Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver who reacted abusively toward a customer who refused to pay an inflated fee got himself arrested. The 56-year-old man was taken into custody after he refused to let a female passenger out of his cab.
The incident was reported on Thursday when a local Cancun woman hailed a taxi on on avenida Prolongación Tulum in SM 239. Upon reaching her destination, the driver wanted 150 peso, which she challenged saying it was excessive.
When she refused to pay the amount he was asking, he refused to let her out of the car. Instead, he began driving through city back streets. The woman phoned a relative and explained what was happening.
Police were notified and were able to track down the angry taxi driver who still had the woman locked in the back seat of his unit. After detailing the events, Cancun police proceeded to arrest the taxi driver, 56-year-old Luis N, for the unlawful deprivation of liberty to the detriment of a passenger.
