Cancun police arrest two after unit attacked by gunfire

Cancun, Q.R. — A police unit was attacked by gunfire in a residential area of Cancun Monday by two men who attempted to flee on a motorcycle.

The incident took place along a dirt road in the Lindavista neighborhood in Region 104 of the city when police were patrolling the area. Two men on a red motorcycle appeared and began firing at the Quintana Roo police truck.

According to preliminary reports, the shooting happened around 1:10 p.m. when police officers requested support after they reported being fired upon. A Red Code alert was issued with additional members of the Quintana Roo Police arriving to help in the search of the two who fled.

Police were successful in locating and arresting both men, one of whom, Jacob A.A., was injured during the search and arrest. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. There were no confirmed reports of any injured officers.

At the scene, police found several bullet casings and seized the red Italika motorcycle they were riding.
