Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun lifeguards were busy during the first official weekend of the New Year with five near-drownings. Civil Protection personnel on one of Cancun’s busy beaches attended to five water accidents in a three-hour span at Playa Marlin.
One of the victims, a 29-year-old woman named Lourdes N, was helped from the water around 4:00 p.m. by her husband and required medical attention at a nearby hospital after being pulled from the water unconscious.
Ambulance personnel were called back to the beach at 6:30 when a 20-year-old man, Mauricio G from Monterrey, was pulled from the sea. He too, required hospital treatment.
During that afternoon, three others were rescued by on-site lifeguards from the waters at Playa Marlin, however, they did not require hospitalization.
