Cancun, Q.R. — An intentionally set garbage burn that became out of control had Cancun firemen scrambling to put it out. On Monday, a fire set to burn garbage quickly got out of control and caught nearby brush on fire.
Cancun firemen responded to the quickly spreading flames in the area of La Unión. Neighbors were the ones who called Emergency 911 to make the report. By the time firemen arrived, approximately 100 square meters of nearby brush had also caught fire.
Dry conditions and strong winds worked against firemen who battled flames for several hours before finally putting it out. Approximately 200 square meters of destroyed brush was the result of the intentionally set garbage burn.
