Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Seven foreigners seen by an oil tanker in Mexican waters have been rescued. The passing oil tanker spotted the small vessel adrift Sunday off the coast of Isla Mujeres.
The oil tanker reported seeing the boat approximately 76 nautical miles (140 kilometers) north of Isla Mujeres.
After notifying the Mexican Navy, marina personnel headed out to sea to meet the oil tanker who had the seven on board their boat. Sailors from the Ninth Naval Region set sail and met the large vessel, which was by that time approximately 105 nautical miles (194.46 kilometers) northwest of Isla Mujeres.
The two women and five men along with one dog on board the oil tanker were transferred onto a Secretaría de Marina (Semar) navy vessel. They were then transferred to Navy facilities of Isla Mujeres and eventually met by INM agents.
