Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — Local firemen were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident along Ruta de los Cenotes early Saturday. Responding emergency personnel arrived to a burning car that was left abandoned.
According to early information, the crashed vehicle was noticed by passing motirists around 1:00 a.m. It was located on fire in a ditch against a tree after the driver slammed into it.
The burning car, a Chevy Aveo, was found by firemen completely engulfed in flames. Several surrounding trees were scorched by the fire. Firemen proceeded to extinguish the burning vehicle before flames spread into the surrounding jungle.
It remains unclear if the driver fled the scene unharmed or was taken to hospital with injuries. Puerto Morelos police are in search of the owner of the car to track down a possible driver. Municipal Transit and Civil Protection are working on the case.
