Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A man that was killed in central Puerto Morelos Saturday was a former government official. The man was killed when he was shot in a targeted attack as he got into his private vehicle.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Niños Héroes Avenue and First Street Saturday morning. The shooting victim has been identified as Hugo “V”, a former government official.
According to early information, the man was leaving his home when he was shot. The shooting is being investigated as a possible direct attack.
Hugo “V” was shot and killed Saturday morning outside his home in the Old Town area, local authorities reported preliminarily. He was shot after walking from his house and getting into his pickup truck.
It is believed his attackers were lying in wait when he appeared. He was shot several times and confirmed dead at the scene. It was neighbors who reported the shooting.
Following the report, a security operation was activated by Municipal police officers. The area was cordoned off while the body was removed. There has not been an announcement of any arrests or possible suspects.
The area was kept off limits to the public for several hours while evidence was collected. A possible motive for the broad daylight shooting is unknown.
