AMLO calls Tren Maya derailment at Yucatan station ‘human error’

Mexico City, Mexico — Human error has been reported as the cause of the Maya Train derailment at a Yucatan station. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador described the derailment that happened Monday morning as human error.

“There was a human error at the station. A track change was not carried out. We are looking to see if it was intentional or if it was an error on the part of those responsible for managing the tracks,” he said during his Tuesday morning press conference.

López Obrador said the Maya Train has security features that worked which is why there were no injuries. He said Tren Maya officials immediately set about repairing that failure, however, the investigations continue.

On Monday morning, a four-car train traveling from Campeche to Cancun derailed at the Tixkokob station in Yucatán.
