Mexico City, Mexico — President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that there are two interested parties in the purchase of CitiBanamex. He said that Germán Larrea, executive director of the mining company Grupo México is one, while the other is Daniel Becker Feldman, executive director of Banca Mifel.
On Friday, López Obrador explained that potential buyers are set with conditions. Those conditions include the buyers be Mexican nationals and up to date with tax payments and second, that the bank’s cultural heritage remain in the country.
“We want them to be Mexicans because there are practically no banks for Mexicans anymore,” said AMLO. He recalled that during the neoliberal period, banks were handed over to foreigners which generated high profits, so now he is seeking for those profits to remain in Mexico.
