Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Forest fire fighters continue to battle the municipality’s burning trees west of the city. On Monday, the Solidaridad fire department reported briefly on the fire that has kept them busy for more than a week.
The SPC (Secretaría de Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos) says the fire has grown and to date, consumed around 25 hectares of Playa del Carmen forest.
The fire they continue to battle is behind an area of Villas del Sol in the city’s far west. Area residents have been dealing with the thick smoke in their neighborhoods due to a change in wind direction.
Drivers have had to proceed slowly due to thick smoke being emitted by the fire.
In a breift note Monday, the SPC (Secretary of Civil Protection, Prevention and Firefighters) said their brigades continue to work on putting it out.
“The Ocelotes brigade belonging to the operational management and firefighters went to the forest fire that is located behind Col. Villas del Sol, carrying out mechanical breach work. The affected area is approximately 25 hectares.”
