Yucatan fugitive wanted for death threats and extortion against Isla Mujeres beach business captured

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Police in the neighboring state of Yucatan have captured a man wanted for uttering death threats and extorting an Isla Mujeres business. On Wednesday, elements of the SSP Yucatan reported on the arrest of 31-year-old Raúl “S.U.”

According to the Yucatan SSP, “Raúl S. U. alias “El güero”, 31 years old and originally from Valladolid, Yucatan, was arrested as a probable perpetrator of extortion and death threats against a merchant in the state of Quintana Roo.”

The agency reported that he was located and detained as a result of coordinated work between the State Investigative Police (PEI) of the Ministry of Public Security and the State Attorney General’s Office, with their respective counterparts from Quintana Roo.

Raúl “S.U.” was captured on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by a judge in the state of Quintana Roo in a joint operation.

“The subject, a tinker and painter by trade and who had been on the run since last September, was arrested in Kanasín,” the Yucatan SSP reported.

“Based on the investigations, it is proven that “El güero” demanded payment of “floor rights” from a merchant from Isla Mujeres, whom he threatened to kill as well as his employees.

“The subject had people at his disposal linked to various illicit activities and demanded that his victim pay 1,500 pesos a week and 7,000 pesos every 20 days to let him work in his store, which is located in the beach area of the insula,” they said.

At the conclusion of the ministerial procedures in Yucatan, Raúl “S.U.” will be transferred to Quintana Roo to face charges.
